DEPUTY MAKES FELONY DRUG ARREST AT THE OLD SHELL STATION ON THE BYPASS

On March 15, 2011 Howard County Deputy Steven Wakefield was attempting to locate a wanted subject on the Antioch Rd. near Nashville when he noticed a white vehicle leaving the area of the wanted subject’s residence.  Deputy Wakefield attempted to catch up to the vehicle and as he approached the intersection of Hwy. 278 and 27 he noticed a white vehicle in the old Shell Station parking lot with another vehicle parked beside it.  The white vehicle looked similar to the vehicle that left the area of the wanted subject’s residence.  Deputy Wakefield noted that a gray Ford Mustang was parked next to the white vehicle.  As Deputy Wakefield approached the vehicles he noticed the driver of the Mustang reaching underneath the steering wheel.  Deputy Wakefield noticed an open Bud Light beer can in the Mustang.  Deputy Wakefield asked the driver what he had put under the steering wheel and the driver replied “nothing”.  Deputy Wakefield asked the driver to exit the vehicle and placed him under arrest for drinking on the highway.  Deputy Wakefield searched the vehicle and found a clear plastic bag containing suspected cocaine.   The driver of the vehicle was Steven Gilliam b/m dob-2/23/1988 of 1320 Front St. in Nashville, Ar.  Steven Gilliam is being charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance-Cocaine and Drinking on the Highway.  Gilliam’s bond was set at 10,000 dollars and he has posted bond and been released from the Howard County Jail.
