Deputy Travis Turner makes arrest after subject flees from him on Highway 371

 

On June 22, 2011 at approximately 1:57 A.M. Howard County Deputy Travis Turner was patrolling on Hwy. 371 near Davidson Rd.   Deputy Turner met a vehicle that was traveling east on Hwy. 371 and exceeding the posted speed limit.  Deputy Turner turned around on the vehicle and observed it cross the center line several times.  Deputy Turner performed a traffic stop on the vehicle and when he approached the driver’s side door the subject drove off and made a U-turn and headed back towards Lockesburg.  Deputy Turner began pursuing the suspect west on Hwy. 371.  The pursuit reached speeds over 100 miles per hour.  Deputy Turner observed the suspect throw something out of the vehicle during the pursuit.  The suspect vehicle drove on the wrong side of the road and endangered other vehicles during the pursuit.  The pursuit went into Sevier County and continued on towards Lockseburg.  The suspect vehicle slowed down in a curve and went into a ditch and the suspect jumped out of the vehicle while it was still in motion and continued to flee on foot.  Deputy Turner chased the suspect on foot and apprehended him.   The suspect Terry L. Johnson b/m dob-2/26/1968 of 487 Hempstead 207 Prescott, Ar. is being charged with Felony Fleeing and Driving on Suspended Driver License.   Johnson is also wanted out of Lafayette County for Failure to Appear on several traffic violations.  The suspect admitted to Deputy Turner that he had thrown out a small bag of marijuana during the pursuit.   No bond has been set at this time for Terry Johnson.
