Reserve Unit

The Howard County Sheriff's Reserves are dedicated individuals who volunteer their time to serve as deputies with the Howard County Sheriff's office.  Currently there are six active Howard County Reserve Deputies. Pictured from left to right: Matt Smith, Andy Anderson, Retired Jerry Jones, Alfred Neeley, Terry Ray, Retired Alvin Vaughn, Jimmy Friend, and not pictured Archie "Cotton" Cothren.

The Howard County Sheriff's Reserves assist the Sheriff's Office by providing patrol for the Corps of Engineers lakes and extra patrols in the county.  They also provide extra security at special events throughout the county.

Aiden Smith is always ready to help his father, Matt Smith who is a Howard County Reserve Deputy.

Alvin Vaughn and Jerry Jones retiring after serving 19 years as reserve deputies with the Howard County Sheriff’s Office.

Alvin Vaughn and Jerry Jones began serving as Howard County Sheriff’s Reserve Deputies in January of 1994.  Alvin and Jerry started their volunteer law enforcement career together and they are ending it together.  Both Alvin and Jerry have given their notice that they are retiring from the Howard County Deputy Sheriff’s Reserve Program.  Alvin and Jerry have both been a great asset to the Sheriff’s Reserve.  They gave many hours of their time helping the Howard County Sheriff’s Office and the people of Howard County.  I want to thank them for their service to Howard County.  They will be greatly missed.    Sheriff Butch Morris
