The Howard County Sheriff's Office would like to make the public aware of scams/frauds in our county. Citizens are receiving checks, pay to the order of the citizen's name. Most checks have a letter attached with instructions telling the person to call a number for further instructions. This scam wants you to cash or deposit the check and return a portion of the funds as a fee and or tax, before you can receive your "lottery, or prize."  Most of these scams are out of state, or even over seas. Please check with your local bank or law enforcement about any possible frauds. If its to good to be true, it probably is.
