DEPUTY DAVIS MADE FELONY ARREST

On March 14, 2011 around 7:30 P.M. Deputy Joey Davis was patrolling south of Mineral Springs on S.H. #355 when he noticed a vehicle parked in the north bound lane of 355.  The vehicle was on a bridge and there was a black male standing at the rear of the vehicle.  Deputy Davis turned around to check on the vehicle and the black male got into the vehicle and drove away heading toward Mineral Springs.  Deputy Davis followed the vehicle and observed it crossing the center line and performed a traffic stop on the vehicle.  As Deputy Davis approached the vehicle the driver’s side door opened and the driver identified as Demario Scoggins b/m dob-9/17/1988 of Mineral Springs, stated that his window was broken.  Deputy Davis observed Demario sweating and asked him what the problem was and Demario advised that his air conditioner was not working in his vehicle.  Deputy Davis noted that the temperature was 45 degrees and the wind was blowing.  Deputy Davis checked Demario for weapons and found a crack pipe in his right rear pocket.  Demario was placed under arrest for possession of drug paraphernalia.  Mineral Springs City Officer Brandon Smith came to assist Deputy Davis while he searched the vehicle.  Deputy Davis found numerous jewelry items and a lock box inside the vehicle Demario was driving.  Officer Smith advised Deputy Davis that Demario informed him that the items in the vehicle were stolen and he had broke into a house in Tollette just before Deputy Davis stopped him.  The value of the items stolen from the residence in Tollette is between 1,500 to 2,000 dollars.  Demario is being charged with Residential Burglary, Theft of Property and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  Bond has not been set at this time.  Demario just recently plead guilty to Breaking and Entering and Theft of Property in Howard County Circuit Court and was awaiting sentencing.
