On May 22, 2012, the Howard County Sheriff’s Office hosted an eight hour training session on certifying and re-certifying deputies, officers and jailers on the use of a taser. Todd Tallant, a deputy with the Sheriff’s Office and Taser instructor conducted the class, instructing and certifying all attendees on the less lethal Taser device. Officers from the Dierks Police Department, Howard County Jailers, and Deputies attended the training. Dierks officers are issued and carry the taser on duty. The Howard County Sheriff’s Office also uses tasers for a less lethal option.
