Howard County Deputy Steven Wakefield stopped a car on Saturday July 6th, 2013 driven by Christopher Vaughn (d.o.b. 10/04/1979). Vaughn had an injury that made it difficult for him to get out of the car. Wakefield conducted a search of the car with Vaughn sitting in the driver’s seat. During Wakefield’s search of the car he noticed a black object in the front floorboard between Vaughn’s legs that Wakefield realized was a pistol. As Wakefield tried to get the gun Vaughn pushed Wakefield’s hands away from the gun. Wakefield was able to get the gun secured. After struggling with Vaughn, Deputy Wakefield was able to get him handcuffed. Vaughn was arrested and transported to jail for Possession of Firearms by Certain Persons, Resisting Arrest, Drinking on the Highway, and No Proof of Liability Insurance. The firearms charge is a Class B Felony.
