Drug Arrest

Deputy Steven Wakefield stopped a pick-up on Bright Star Road for a traffic violation on Sunday, March 8, at approximately 10:45 p.m. The truck was driven by Gary Deloney (53 of Mineral Springs). While Wakefield was talking to Deloney he (Wakefield) could smell what he believed to be beer or liquor. Wakefield also  noticed a small white object in Deloney’s left hand as he reached for paperwork. Deloney tried to put the object behind his back and it fell between the driver’s seat and the door of the truck. Wakefield asked Deloney to get out of the truck and the object feel onto the ground by the driver’s door. Wakefield found that the object was a small piece of folded paper that contained what is believed to be methamphetamine. Deloney was arrested and taken to jail for Possession of Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine), a Class D felony. Deloney was also asked to submit to a breath test to help determine his blood/alcohol level. The test results indicated Deloney had been drinking but was under the legal limit for DWI. No bond has been set at the time of this press release.
